The Mississippi Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church is recovering from a season of disaffiliation. As those choosing to Stay UMC, we are committed to honoring the conscience and conviction of each other along differing theological lines. We move into the future together with a deep desire to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, as we network, share clear, accurate information, and support one another in our ministries. We hold no ill will toward those departing for other mission fields and expressions of Methodism. Our sincere prayer for those who are departing is that their ministries bring glory to God, make new disciples, and result in a deepening of faith and discipleship in all places.
We, lay and clergy members of the Mississippi Annual Conference, affirm our faith in Jesus Christ, who gives us hope of resurrection and is always making things new. We are steadfast in our commitment to the Scriptures and the historic creeds of the church, which remind us not to lose heart because the Spirit is moving,
We are committed to nurturing our relationships with each other and the wider UMC connection. We, as the Mississippi Annual Conference, move forward in a spirit of hope with a vision for the future.
Our life together will be marked by compassion, courage, and companionship:
- We will pray for our bishop, cabinet, conference staff, clergy, lay leaders and all members of the Mississippi Annual Conference of the UMC.
- Vital congregations will be equipped and strengthened with connectional resources for faith formation, disciple-making, and contributing to justice and peace in the world.
- Clergy well-being will be strengthened through collaborative leadership and faithful accountability; and
- Creating a collaborative spirit of support and resources for these ends.
